Avil before it told me about wheel of life, I knew the sub topics under that. But I didn't know what will apply for. So, what is will apply for and what does it do?
Avil Pinto 2:34
Right? Very important to understand and if you if an individual is looking at where I am doing well and where I have to get better. So we'll have life is very important. Now what is will of life. It's like a pie chart. If you have seen pie chart, it identifies different areas of life there are in total eight areas, okay, which are very important in any life, starting from health, career, finances, relationships, family, fun, recreation, and love. So these are the typical areas, which one would be doing really well. One would be rather struggling, there are challenges. So wheel of life gives you an indicator, a bird's eye view of where my life is, and where I should be focusing or where I should be working on. So that my wheel of life goes in balance. It's like a spoke of the wheel. If two three spokes are not aligned, or if they are broken, then we'll we'll move on, but at some point, it might break. You may not be able to then ride smoothly. So it's important to understand.
Deepak Machado 3:52
Okay, I get your point I get that many things should be in your life, financial life, health, your fun life, your family should be in balance. But not many of us are able to do that! In your experience or from your life, where do you think we need more of what we call where we should project our importance more and which area of our life
Avil Pinto 4:24
good good question the park now first is as like I said it's important to know introspect, where is my wheel now, as of now, okay. Now, we all have aspirations and goals dreams, like if you heard the previous episodes, we started with purpose now we I have a purpose to achieve, or I have a dream or a goal. Now to get there. Okay. My current state of mind my knowledge skills may not be sufficient enough to get me there. Right. So there could be a need of equity. Adding something new or letting go of certain things which may not be helpful for me to go to the end destination okay. So for example, the barriers such as the fears or limiting beliefs or the thinking patterns which which are not supporting me too, to get going in the way it should be. This is where when I started off with life coaching my coach, the first thing before anything could be started, we sat and did this exercise on wheel of life I also never knew two years back what was wheel of life it's a very simple tool where you can do it like in five to 10 minutes there is online assessment also can be done for free okay without any strings attached. So, this is where I did online as well it is called Wheel of Life dot new me and oh mi.com it gives you a very free tool to to go and click and do the assessment once you understand the wheel of life then it becomes easier for you to understand the pattern okay of your life and then you can accordingly take the right action. So where identified was myself now Wheel of Life is an assessment between point one to 10 right you give a score and then you know exactly how you're we looks like within that circle of will of life. So, I rated myself health at two years back I was at six then finances are related to career family recreation and love, spiritual growth spirituality. Now, when I looked at the wheel was not in balance, okay, it was totally like a cobweb. No one was was down. So that really reflected or probably that was reality for me Reality Check that that will you want to be there, but then you your foundation of on health, okay, health is where it all starts if you have good health and everything else will be good. Now, is it only physical health, okay, that you're looking at or is there more to health, so, then I understood there is mental health. Now, I need to work on that. And then there is social health, which which I never knew earlier. So when I understood and I knew that these are the areas that I have to work on, so that that gives me a holistic view, 360 degree way of looking at doing or working in life. And accordingly, then I went backwards, set daily habits so that I would develop in each of this area. Now coming back to your question on which are the areas that one should look at. It's person to person, okay, every person is different. So that so accordingly, when he does this exercise on Wheel of Life, he'll understand which area he or she which area that has to be probably scored less. That area should be developed or improved, provided, okay, that is in line with, with where you'd like to take your life towards. Okay. For some people, family comes the least. Okay? It may not be a priority, but for some people career is the top most priority. Good. Now, having career topmost priority, but you're not balancing your family, then it may not help you in the long term. Okay. That's why it has to go in balance. Unless and until if you are not aware, then what would you know where to focus on? Or where should be your time invested to learn or to develop? Okay.
When you said about the site, I just went there. Now, this scale of one to 10, how do I select? Whether I'm 5, whether I'm 6 that I'm seven, how do I select that? How do I know where am I at at the moment?
Yeah, I think it's more of your honest approach to to where you think you are. Okay. There is no guided process to Okay, this should be the point. These are the criteria so that you think that it is at five or six. It's about you what you feel, okay. Like when they asked me when my coach asked, I will where do you rate yourself in terms of health. I knew that I'm healthy, but I still feel that way. My dietary requirements, my in terms of weight, all those things, they still had scope to to improve or to change. So I rated myself six. Okay. So it was a my own judgment to to my life. Okay and where, where do I see myself? Right? If I have if I if I'm looking at a photo, or six packs, slim trim body and I'm nowhere they're nowhere close to that, that means it's my honesty to tell myself look, this is where I am, if I have to get there if that is point 10, then I have a gap of four. So when I understood that gap of four points between six to 10. Now what am I going to do to to achieve that 10 over a period of time? Okay. So then I decided, Okay, I need to do everyday exercise. I have to take care of my mental health, how do I do by associating with the right set of people who helped me think positive, they empower me they inspire me. Okay. So things obviously changed. Because I recognized what where I am, what I should then change. And that change came with certain action levels certain putting certain efforts on a consistently on a on a daily basis, physically. So developing new set of habits, I would say in simple success habits, I call it. Yes.
Great, great. Very insightful thoughts you have there. And I'm amazed at this tool. Why because if you see a gist of where you are right now, yes. Okay, you introspect. And you find out okay, where you are right now. And then you try to know go to know, wherever you are, I think each of these parts like let's say, hell, finance, career, you know home love all this, I think this can be our separate episode in itself, the future, which we have definitely. My next question is you said about, you know, getting there, daily. Can we can we do as let's say, for example, your career? Many people you say are more interested in their careers? How do I assess? Again, it's an intersection, but I want to know, how do I get to the point 10 or is it possible to get to the point and or the ultimate, you know, satisfaction or contentment? Is it possible for us to get there? Okay, from wherever I am. To that point?
I think it's a very important question to ponder upon the book. Because we see is the best. Okay, I see that the best is only getting better on a daily basis. Okay. So if point 10 is the my best way to look at what is that point? And would be then, in Korea, let's say I am a junior executive. So if I have to call it point in what could be that point for me, right? Is it being a manager or senior manager or general manager or anything that you have in mind, if that is the one, then you have your career which is an in mind and then working in balancing your career? And I say balancing is basically putting up the steps, okay, or clear strategy in terms of how would you get there. Okay. So you can identify, wherever you are, no matter who you are, what you're doing at the moment, you can do this exercise of will of life, put your score, understand, and then you need an insight or a guided process to then help you. Okay, that's why there are people like life coaches or mentors were around you to to kind of support Okay, so this is where you are, if you want to get there, then how it can be done. And this is how I got I got help through my coach that, okay, I didn't know what to how to go about or what is my next step, right. But there were things which, which were asked to me. And then I got my answers within myself, everybody have our answers. We know what we want, but it just that we don't know how to kind of think towards getting that thought or clarity. So you need to have somebody asking you artful questions, or are those important key questions which can define that moment for you? And this is the power of a coach that could help. Now people call, you know, reach out to me for asking a will Can you guide me for a job or I want to get that job or Can you refer me then? Then I go back and ask them how many like some people also say, I have not got job for like three months, six months a year, and it's alarming to, to have to be without a job. So then go backtrack. How many jobs you applied? Where did you apply? Which is your industry? What is your key skills? Are they in demand for the industry that you're applying? What is the job description asking for from candidates? Are you meeting those requirements? Now, when you go back with three, four questions, the person suddenly starts thinking, Oh, I'm applying, but my profile is not matching with the requirements of the GED. Right? I'm not applying consistently to the jobs available there. Okay, how many new people that are like, contacted in the last 30 days or 60 days, since the time that I'm applying for jobs? How many people I have reached out in my circle that you are looking for a job. Now, this question suddenly gives that direction to a person who am not doing that the right thing, you know, and then things obviously start staining. And see power of questions are so it can, it can bring the best in you, it can bring the best in you. So this is what, as a coach or a mentor, one could do. But coming back to, to let's say, to grow interior, identifying the gap is important in everything it's identifying where you are, and where you want to be, if you know the point A and B. And then the gap is to fill that gap, what you should be doing.
And for me will have life got me or made me realize a very, very visual aid of my own life. Do you go think on health, and then you think about your career, then you think about your family and love spirituality? So it you are actually stepping into each of your areas of life? which usually we don't do it on a daily circle of I mean, what is it daily, nine to six, or whatever that we do, we don't actually think of this holistic view on our own self. That's why we miss out on many key aspects. And at some point, we are not healthy at some point we are not well at some point. We are struggling with our careers. We are struggling as a family because the core focus is work, work work, but I'm not focusing on my family. I'm not being with my children, I'm not giving enough time for them. Okay? It's not just giving time, but it's the quality of time, what are you doing with that time? And that's more important. Like I can be at home thinking that I am with my family, but what are you doing it while you're at home? Are you just watching TV? Okay, and children on their own? Or are you with them playing with them doing artwork or painting or playing any any with toys, or telling them stories or reading something for them. And these are the this is for me quality of time. So So this is how you have to identify the gap and then work on work on and that's why we love life is super duper important. If you really want to have your life, to be thriving, to be extraordinary to create that element of success. And here we talking about Success 10X and and that's why Wheel of Life can help you roll 1X, 2X, 100X eventually.
You want to do 100 x 100 x. We'll go there. So yeah, thank you for that great insight. Now, now I get the point. Okay, so we'll apply. You have your first goal post, then when you reach there, do you need to reassess yourself? Or? Oh, yes. So how often should I do it? Is there a time or six month or one once a year? Once in a quarter? How often Should I do this? How should I track this in fact.
the good that you asked this three months back as of June 1 I did will have life. Okay. Now, I'm part of a mastermind group where a group of 12 people every Saturday morning from six o'clock to 7:30 we meet and we deep dive on certain areas of life. So each of them are expertise in some of the other areas. And this is where the key focus went into wheel of life. I knew I did this exercise two years back, but there was no core focus in each of these areas I was doing I was doing things which was which was going in alignment with what I did two years back, but now once again, when I did this exercise, I, I actually got to know that there are certain areas, I have to go a little more deeper. Okay? They call it atomic habits, like as minute, okay, to the core. And then when I did it together with all the other people, they reflected on that wheel of life, it gave me more insights on what they do differently. So sharing best practices, how they manage that time? And what are they doing differently that I am not aware of? Okay, and holding each other accountable. Like we have accountable partners, that Okay, I will you have committed on this, are you doing this? So that moved to another step, which is creating a success habit tracker. They call it habit tracker, but I call it success habit tracker. Now, in this habit tracker, I identified the areas, for example, health, or career or family or love spirituality, identified what are the things that I should be doing on a daily basis. And I made a list, I have it in front of on my desk right now. And I gave, I made a commitment to myself, day one to day 30. Every day, these set of seven to eight habits are things which you must do. Okay, you must because without that, then your will of life will not never balance, it's very hard to balance it, there is I don't see life having all equal balance, it's just that we have to prioritize and keep it going. Okay. So in order to also prioritize, what do I prioritize? What are the things that I should be looking at. And that's where identify the core elements, where I should be focusing my energy, my thought process my learning, right? And in previous episodes, I have shared about health, okay, everyday 30 minutes. Then about spirituality, and part of meditation groups, where it helps me in, in in terms of my mental well being also to, to be more self aware, and to heal myself of many things. So meditation for us, then I am part of some empowering groups, okay? Which gives me more of the positive motivation or inspiration. mastermind itself is more of uplifting group, they push each other, they challenge each other, why not like this? Okay, it can be like this. Now, what I'm trying to say here is, it's not only identifying the area or the gap, but then what are you doing about it? And how are you doing it. And then within that 24 hours, you're kind of putting yourself to do things that are important for you to fill those gaps. And this is a very simple process, but it's not easy. Simple is because you can put all the things you can put your strategy, you can put your plan, you can you can put your habits, this is what I'm going to do, but the next step is doing it. That is the most challenging thing. Doing it on a daily basis consistently is something which which humans, or each of us lack and I take the blame also, you know, so how do we do it being disciplined and consistent, is the key. And this is the one thing which I say it in every success story, no matter who on planet Earth, who has achieved whatever they have, they say only one thing. They know what they wanted, and they just kept doing it. Keep doing it, keep doing it and be consistent. And while you're consistent, get better on a daily basis, not do the same thing. But get better and that requires you to accept or embrace that change. I want to change I want to change on a daily basis. So this this is what I feel the park when you asked me that is there. You know that ideal point where you can get to right, you can get there, but you just have to think of getting better on a daily basis. There is in my life. I don't believe in the point of perfection, there is no thing called perfection. If you are perfect, then you are next to God. So there is no Perfection for me, you only can get better, get better and get better. And then there is a scope to get better and better version of yourself.
Yeah, thanks for sharing that. One of the things I did was I found auditing my life. Are these habits helping me? One of the surprising ways I looked at my I just started auditing my phone. I looked at the amount of time I spent every day because I'm tracking it. I want to see where where I'm going with it. Surprising, I didn't know myself that I'm spending almost two hours a day on my phone. I was spending. Well surprised me. You know, like 10 days, you're spending 24 hours. Allah sorry, 20 hours? Well, this is 24 hours, at least once in 12 days, you're losing one day, then I made a very important pact with myself, that I will spend no more than 20 to 30 minutes a day. Because sometimes, yes, you need this mobile with you. Yeah, not more than 30 minutes a day on mobile. That's drastically or greatly improved my quality of life. So you have to keep auditing your life, you know, every now and then, otherwise, you will go out of control. That is to achieve something or you want to go somewhere?
Yeah, the good reference that you gave of auditing auditing, like organizations do audit checks. Yes. Understand? Where are the loopholes? Where as to improve?
That's where it came from? We are doing audit in our company. Yeah. I wrote in order to have your life. Something on going right. So you course correct. Yeah. So I started writing about it on my blog. So that's where I got the idea. Why shouldn't I audit myself. Edit your life. Also, not an ordered edit it. Yeah, not ordered edit. Remove some things which don't help you to towards your goals? Cut them out.
So here I am right now, since you're talking about wheel of life. Now. When you say what is wheel of life, it is nothing but auditing your life? Yes. While you audit, you understand what you're doing? Good. What do you what is the scope to improve? And when you said, edit, and edit and then get away with things which are not helping you to progress? I think it's a very simple way to describe.
Yes, absolutely. Thanks for sharing all your ideas. What or where if I have to change myself, let's say health. What is the smallest step that I can take? To change or to change my habits, you're talking about atomic habits, I read this book called Atomic Habits by a very popular author, James Clear. Yeah, he has written that book. So what success habit one or two success habits that you think can help me improve my wheel of life? I don't know get into. I don't know how to get to 10. But I want to improve myself from 6 to 6.5. And now. Yeah, yeah. How weird what habits do you think are important
Super now... In the wheel of life, each area you will recognize, let's say in particularly coming to in my area, which I identified love, not love, love was already thriving. Actually, it was it was already I felt that it was good. Okay. And it talks about at the end of the day, your relationship with your spouse, or your immediate circle, you know, what I felt was friends, okay, friends, was the area which I felt I was lacking. Because with my focus in all of the things, my friendship, the friendship that I had, since childhood, as I was in university, in college, there were some great friends, which were not in touch, or rather, I was not in touch. Okay, so that had less priority in on a daily basis, okay, in my way of life. I scored myself six now from six, I had to build it to eight, I gave a one year time now to build from six to eight, what should I do? So I committed myself that every day I would see burden notifications, and I will wish people on their birthdays. I will send them greetings. I will call them personally. Right. So now on Facebook, I have more than 4000 friends now. They're all they're not my friend. They're like Facebook friends. But I get all those acquaintances and you know, okay, they heard me at some of the seminar or on the buy jobs and they send me requests good. Because otherwise when they have to chat with Me, okay, Facebook Messenger does not allow if you're not a friend and that message doesn't come to me, so it's important to be connected. Nevertheless, what I made a choice is that I received Facebook notifications of people's birthdays, I send them a message, it takes five minutes of your day, okay? To just type and then copy paste and post it to five friends. Okay, I wish them simple. Hello, dear. Wishing you superduper awesome birthday. Okay, hope you had a great celebration. Stay blessed. Now three sentences, which kind of makes me feel good that I'm wishing somebody I'm greeting someone. Okay. And that builds a bond. Okay. Now, the immediate circle, I call them. I call them all my family and closest friends. I call them personally on the phone wherever they are in the world. Okay, even if that one there are more to their arms I spend on that call doesn't matter. But what is important is the relationship and that family. That connection to me. Not because when I call them for birthday, I kind of impress them or nothing. I feel great. When I do it. It's a nice habit to have where you remember at least somebody on their special day. So this is what I started doing. Second thing is few friends that I want to be in touch. I made sure that every week I would speak to them, or I send them a voice note on WhatsApp, or I at least send them a message asking how are you doing what's happening? Now these things I started doing automatically I realized that things are different than what I was not doing it earlier. Simple things okay, but there was no focus towards it. Now I understood that gap I started working towards and I feel happy more than anyone I feel happy by doing it. Okay, so, in the last three months, if you ask me, if I was at six now I can proudly say I made 6.5 or seven. Because I knew what I was not doing now I have started doing few things. Right. So yesterday I have a very good friend His name is Ryan he lives in Bangalore. Okay, so we have been buddies for a long time.
So in between there was a huge gap we never spoke otherwise used to at least speak once a week. And and then suddenly when I realized that when what am I doing? I have many things going around well in my life, but this is something that you pick up the call, you talk all the bullshit bullshit that is happening you can just share what you you know, that trusted partner or trusted buddy mode? No, sometimes you can share many things with spouse but certain things you cannot. Okay. So you need someone who could you two went out and I felt that many things that I was holding within which I wanted to, to kind of talk about and talk to, and I never realized that I was not talking to my friend. So imagine doing that audit of my life made me realize certain things to edit. And, and I started speaking I told him about it. You know, we at least we should be talking on a weekly basis. Like last night I just sent him a message love you bro. Okay, simple. I had to express it. Because he's there for me. Okay, he's there for me. And, and this is a bonding that we share. So people think that oh, I will be surrounded with so many people. He has so many people to talk to, but they're there. But they cannot be close. Or buddies or someone who you could share your life or your personal feelings, you know, or challenges sometimes. Yeah, so many things changed the bug. That's why I feel it's very important to do your audit of life.
Yes, it's also called grounding, you know, grounded in your friendship, your relationship very important. Thanks for sharing your story. On that note, I would like to ask you another personal question...How many friends do you think one can have? How many number of friends are ideal because I know so many number of friends, which eventually I have cut out certain relationships because they were not helping both of us. Some people some were toxic relationships, some you know, not so helping each other So I've cut out. So what do you think, is the ideal number of friends? This is nothing to do with wheel of life? This is very personal. This is your...what what are your thoughts on this? How many friends? Can someone have? And, you know, you will, you said in Facebook, you have 4000 friends.
That is social, that defines you know. Because the definition of a friend is I send you friend requests, but it doesn't mean that you're afraid because there's a true meaning to friendship, you know. So, I have not defined any certain numbers in my mind. But my friendship is somebody I can lean on when I need at times, someone who could help me emotionally, someone who can understand and really be there to, to kind of push me at times when I need. Okay, probably that accountability partner. So it depends on person to person, okay, then how many friends they choose to have? Right? I know some people everyday they're hanging out with a new new set of people now. I don't know, how does that work, but probably that person, it works for that person. But for me, I choose in terms of who I should build relationship with. Okay, when I say relationship, it's about, you know, valuing that connection or friendship. There are many, many people who are building friendships based on value, certain value, they will derive from that relationship. Okay. They're very focused about who they choose to, to kind of connect and build a circle of influence. Right. So, again, you also mentioned that you have let go of certain toxic relationships. Now you have a friend who is always grumpy, who is always negative. And when you speak to that person, you never get excited, motivated, rather, he drains you together with that energy. Now, do you really want that friendship? Okay. Or do you feel that, okay, it's obligation that is my friend, so I have to listen to him? No, you shouldn't you you're not obliged, you can probably tell that person look, if you continue talking, same way, then it would not help him or her, or myself, it's a waste of time. Right? So you can have a clear set of expectations, and then probably more than with your life, because you have more priorities you have you are here on this planet for a reason. So it's very important to choose who you are surrounding around who you spend, or invest time with. Okay, so based on this, I define friendship in a way wherein I have someone who I can trust, I have someone who is there for me, in the time when I need, okay. So these are the things make me to be to call friendship. Right? So if you have 10 people, then it's great. Okay, if you have five, it's also some people, it could be one also, one friend can mean a life to you, right? So now I have a family, I have my spouse, and her extended family. So I have a big circle, right? And then I have my children. Now, the way I see the time that I spend with my children, they're my friends now, you know. And so this is a bigger circle. Now, it also depends to choose your friends, depending on the time you have, how much of spare time or how much of time that you have, that you can commit to God with friends to socialize, to hang out to travel to watch movies. So depending on that you can choose the number of friends you want to have.
End of the day depends on you how many friends you have an airway, that's a different subject altogether. Yeah. Thank you Avil, for your great insights, any parting words for our listeners?
Yes, I think we spoke a lot about Wheel of Life, the different areas. As you mentioned the book, it's all about doing that audit. Okay, check where I am right now. And where are the things that I'm already doing well, and where are the things which are the things that I have to probably look at, and then work upon and will have life helps you so take an action Assessment online or find a coach or a mentor who could guide you. There is a wheel of life, you get a online image, you can download, you can take a print, sit, do it, identify your life. super important. Okay, super important. And this is what every successful people do. First they audit or First they check where they are. And, you know, in in, I define it also as SWOT, you know, so your strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. So that also kind of gives you a reference of where are you very good at where you have to focus area to improve, then identify opportunities and threats. So, yeah.
