Great. I've always struggled with this in my life, always. I was of the....I was of the thought that you know, I could never do anything. Even if I did, I would fail. This is what my beliefs were. So I wanted to explore myself and maybe people out there who are there with limiting beliefs. So this is one of the main things that stops anyone from any kind of success. So if you're yourself, you will have no no goal, you will always be thinking or you will always be anxious, you'll always be curious. And you won't take any step towards any good goal. So Avil, just to give an overview of maybe a definition of what limiting beliefs are.

Yeah. Okay, fantastic. Belief is, is our core. This is what forms the basis of who we become in life. Since childhood, everybody said teachers say parents and everybody around Believe in yourself to believe and believe in myself on what okay with regard to work. So, later on as, as I was growing up, I had completed my graduation and still people keep saying every motivation video kept saying Believe in yourself, okay. Later on, I understood a profound quote from Mahatma Gandhi. He said, in one of his quotes on a very famous quote, by the way, everything starts with belief. Belief becomes our thoughts. Thoughts become our feelings, feelings become our words, words, turn into actions. Actions become our habits, habits become our values, and values define our destiny. So today, no matter who and where the person is, or individually, Is it because of what he believes or she believes in? Yes, no one said, Don't let others opinion become your reality.So what are these beliefs? predominantly, these are the thoughts and I would say it's a self talk. What you speak to yourself when you are asleep, when you are idle, when you are not doing anything. And I will tell you some of the limiting beliefs for a long time held me they were like chain surrounded, surrounded me and they were not letting me be free. There's a very small story of four baby elephant. Okay, this little boy passes across a circus. And he sees an elephant. A giant elephant tied by a rope to a pool. His boy then asked his father, then why this giant elephant has all the strength can break that rope. But why it is not breaking it. So his dad says while it was small, they tied that baby elephant by a small rope. And he tried then to break it, and it couldn't break. And eventually, it grew up with that thought that it cannot break that rope. Now it's a giant illusion, it has all the strength. It can carry the logs. It can break, it can break a tree as well. But the fact is, what that define that limiting factor for that elephant was that experience when it was small. It couldn't break that rope, he believed that it cannot or never break that rope. No, these, this is nothing but the limiting belief. Likewise, in our life, we have limiting beliefs. I can't do that. I have tried that before. It doesn't work for me. Life is always difficult for me, nothing comes easy. It's very difficult to earn money. It's very difficult to deal with people. I can't speak as he speaks, or she speaks, I am too old for right now. And these are some of the limiting beliefs, which always keeps stopping us.

Wow. I've always you know, experienced this so many times my life. Either people tell me that you can't do it or my I myself tell I can't do it. Yeah. So, When I look back at so many events that happened, then I started regretting Okay, I should have done it. I thought I couldn't do it, but somebody else did it. So I who may be he has overcome his limiting beliefs, he has done it, but I have not been able to do it. So many yes situations in our lives. And I would like to ask how are these formed? Basically?

Super, super, I think, very good question. These are formed since the time we have arrived on this planet Earth, okay. And it is also now studies are proving that we are carrying certain belief system from our ancestor as well. It was for me like how genes we say genetics, likewise, belief system and just look at us. Where is a first first school that we call, it's our house? And what are the things that are spoken in the house, when the elders keep talking, don't do that. Don't do this, this will not work. It shouldn't be done that way. And that forms the belief system. And beliefs. belief system is super important to identify. And when our elders who we look up to, when they start when they have a certain belief that they can't, and that is passed on to us as well. And that can also form that fear as well. Don't talk to strangers. And that is once again, a fear that is built in. And that becomes a belief. And because of that, so many people are afraid of talking to strangers, afraid of talking to people. And because of that, how they limit their career opportunities, their growth. I counsel a lot of people the job seekers particularly and and they have these limiting beliefs. And I feel very sad. You will at some point even I had it. And that's why I realized that pain, how I struggled in most of the career, people who are would like to grow in career, they say I'm not good enough. I don't have all the skills to qualify me to get that promotion, or I don't have the qualifications. Not good enough. And this fundamental thought of I am not good enough. Keeps you away keeps you Behind from many, many, many people, and you and I have been thinking that I am not good enough. I don't have enough relevant skills or I don't have an MBA from a top 10 Business Institute to get a core, you know, job in a multinational company. But then I started changing my thought. I realized at some point that by thinking, I'm stinking, so I have to change my thinking. And this is where I adapted to be different in the way I think. And that started changing my belief system. Again, in our previous episodes, we spoke about fears, we spoke about priorities. It's all again, coming back to one thing, that how you are looking at life in terms of what you think. And that's why I started today's session with Mahatma Gandhi's favorite, my favorite quote. And it's everything is surrounded with beliefs. If Mothma Gandhi, with no weapons, with no nothing, believed in one fact that he wanted freedom. Freedom was his purpose. And that became his indomitable belief. And then everything started working towards that.

Thank you for sharing your own story. When you were talking, I was recalling some kind of story I heard from a buyer person called Roger Bannister. Have you heard of him?

Till he ran that one mile, everybody used to believe that nobody could run a mile within four minutes.

Because every maybe there was a limiting beliefs within people. And Roger Bannister, I think in 1954, he cracked that and he ran a mile within like three minutes and 59 seconds. And after that everybody started breaking that record even.

Now the record is around two minutes, some odd a mile. So there are so many examples we can give on how limiting beliefs affect us as as well as society, because the potential within us is so much we help we hold ourselves back because of our limiting beliefs. And I think the world is so small.
My next question is, okay, you spoke about Mahatma Gandhi, spoke about a few other people you spoke about yourself. Yeah. How do I find my limiting beliefs? How do I recognize my limiting beliefs? Maybe it is a norm for me. For me, maybe for you, it is very easy. How to find those limiting beliefs. You know, within...

great, great question. The plug. In fact, in a previous episode, when we had when we addressed about fears, there again, we spoke about how to identify the fears. Now, similarly, I would have to connect the same dots here that there should be somebody, a mentor or a coach in your life. Okay. Ideally, this is ideally where I could get help from, okay. And the language pattern the way you speak. Right, and others can feel it, or they can sense it.
And having a mentor helps you because somebody who's already walked the path, he knew where the pitfalls are, how he was thinking, what then changed how the mindset shifted. And then probably that person could identify, look, you're struggling, or you're slowing down because of these these XYZ facts. Now, imagine if a person has a big dream, and then inside, he's thinking that How is it possible? I don't think I can ever do it. nobody in my family has did it how I can do. Right? Nobody in my immediate circle also rotated. Am I just dreaming? And then somebody says, Ray dreams are just dreams, it will never work. Look at him. He was dreaming what happened to him. And then he starts thinking, Okay, yeah, he's right. I don't think it will work for me. So somebody else's opinion, then kind of becomes reality for you. So it's always good to introspect and check. The best thing is, if you are if you are targeting or doing something, and then you are not been able to do it successfully or not able to achieve results as fast as you want. Then ask yourself, What are you talking to yourself? At the end of the day, when you go to bed? What are the things that you tell yourself? Have a day's hard. Tomorrow. And again, I have to face that same difficult phase of my life. And that self talk, making yourself believe that things are difficult. And this is, I believe, for the longest period of time, I had this feeling that in my family as farmers, things were difficult, money was difficult. I've never seen abundance ever. And for me, it was a fact that I believed looking at my circle, my surrounding. And I didn't have anybody around me who was super successful or someone who was well, the and, and somebody who could think that wealth comes easy. But then when I started studying more of the people who are wealthy, okay, not particularly about money or richness, when I say wealth, it's all about abundance, living life with, with happiness with what they want, you know, what really keeps them happy. And when I started looking at these things, I then realized that these people believe in certain way. Think and Grow Rich is a very beautiful book, by Napoleon Hill. It was published in 1929. Imagine, back then, he interviewed so many people and through that experience, he defined that every successful individual No matter whatever it is, in life, whether it is an actor, or or into business, or any profession, for that matter. They had one common thing, because they had a very strong belief system. Now what is that belief system, thinking great about themselves, having that high self esteem, having those empowering beliefs? Right, you simple example. For me, I believe that things are difficult, nothing comes easy. Okay, that was drilled in my mind. Before I couldn't do anything, I would tell myself, look, I'm taking this step. But I know that I have to struggle, I have to go through the difficult face. But so stupid of me, right? That I am myself making my own life difficult. Then the same thought changed. Success is easy. I deserve everything that I want to achieve. Success is easy. And this taught this belief, which is important belief, which I started practicing, which became a mantra in my mind, I started I started writing every day, in my journal, I have a gratitude journal, where I write goals, affirmations, and I listed about 2025, affirmations, positive affirmations, which helped me replace those limiting beliefs to empowering beliefs. So I could share some of the empowering beliefs. But this is how I could identify and and then start changing. So you could have somebody who is an empowering partner, empowering mentor, or coach, and then they could help you identify or you should introspect yourself, What am I thinking right now? Write down those thoughts. When you write down those thoughts, you will know that what are you talking? Right, that is in front of you. And then if those thoughts that you're thinking are positive, then it is empowering, if it is negative, that they're pulling you down. So identifying the positive and negative is the most important and for that, one has to be mindful, mindful. And this is what I would like to share for people who would like to identify their limiting beliefs.

Yeah, you said it rightly that I also learned this very hard way that you know, having affirmation....I was always talking down to myself about Okay, oh, wow, I can I see somebody maybe is reached there in this position through some contacts, maybe has special skills, maybe he has some ancestral money, which came to him as a form of capital. But then I realized that this is everything was my own thinking and my own you know creation of my own brain. I started like you said writing affirmations, positive affirmations filling myself with positivity.

Avil, are there any shortcuts or are there any good way to overcome this limiting beliefs because one of the most important factors that affects our way to success is these limiting beliefs. We don't believe in ourselves, we believe that we have no special skills whereas everybody has special skills, everybody has skills that they can use to achieve success. Do you have any methods any tricks any tips for us there?

There are there are many tools available Deepak I think this would definitely help people. One of the things that I have now pursued doing it the online NLP coaching mastery and then phase neuro linguistic programming, he talks about the visual, kinesthetics Okay, and the auditory. So, the three things how it kind of translates your thinking to a language and that language results in certain end and end results. So, while I was doing NLP, I realized that everything around is our core, which is belief, and that's how the thinking pattern generate and that to have certain thinking pattern, there are a lot of things that influence around us our past experiences, our situations and our circle of influence and many more in order to overcome that, then there are certain tools and exercises that are done to to understand the existing belief system and then depending on what you want to achieve, then what kind of beliefs you have to inculcate or you have to cultivate this is this is this is a brilliant tool, okay, if somebody would like help with I can definitely help because there are certain things that has to be done as a one on one as a session. Second, is embracing positive affirmations, just as you mentioned, what are positive affirmations are positive affirmations are those mantras wherein it translates your negative thinking to your positive thinking and, and, and it is said very beautifully in this book and the documentary called the secret, ask, believe and receive before you when you ask, you got to believe in it. Okay, now, that beef is those positive affirmations, that visualizing that positive end in mind, believing that it is possible, I can do it. I am meant for greatness, I am extraordinary. I am limitless. I am happy, I'm excited. And these are the few things that you could tell yourself, I have all the skills and knowledge to try when whatever that I'm doing. If I'm in sales, I generate leads, I connect with people, I can close deals easily. And when you keep saying this, everything starts working in the direction that you want. Instead, if you wake up in the morning and say, I hate this job, I can't connect with people, how do I generate leads? People don't respond to me, you see this negative pattern of thoughts or what do you what do you say. So, positive affirmations is very important. Again, there are a lot of positive affirmations available on YouTube or if somebody needs help, I can help it as well. I have a binder full of positive affirmations for a career for money for self esteem for wealth creation for abundance for various various for health as well health and wellness the way you say it, then it starts translating the way you want to see in your life. Right. So this is as first as you're having some resources and tools like NLP has given second is positive affirmations. Third is have a empowering mentor or a buddy or a coach who could help you diagnose your diagnose your limiting beliefs and then give you that treatment to tell you that okay, this is not the way you think this is how it has to be based. And that is how I could recognize my limitations and then started replacing them. Sometimes what happens or the backstory again, we Sometimes realize, okay, this is my limiting belief. And you tend to get this positive affirmations and you start talking thinking negative or positive. And sometimes it really works. And sometimes it might take time, depending on how you, you know, focus or condition. I have an example here, it's like you would take your car, okay, for oil change. And in the workshop, this mechanic would not drain the oil completely. About 20 to 30% of the oil will remain the old oil, it is more crazy, it's more black. And then he will pour a new set of oil, what would happen, the oil mixes with the new oil, still there is no freshness, right? So similarly, what we as humans tend to do is, okay, I have limiting beliefs, I need to fix it. And then you go into a temporary phase, you start embracing positive affirmations, then start thinking positive, which I've never done in your life, all your life, you have been conditioned in a way, which suddenly you are trying to, to kind of replace it. Unless you really get deeper approved by the roots, and then it will help you otherwise, you will tend to have the same challenges. Over and over again, it might give you a temporary fix. But again, it will have the same old thought patterns will come back.

What according or what is your dream life?

My dream life? Wow.
I wake up with freedom, I have one thing that drives me every day. Okay? live a life of choices. When I say live a life of choices, without having any boundaries, without having to worry for tomorrow without having to worry, to do kind of what is in my bank balance to kind of spend on what I really want to do, or on my family create that legacy. But the dream life would be not just about having a palatial house, or driving that Aston Martin, or, you know, traveling places. No, my dream life is if I could live that life, then how many more people that I can help to make, you know, have that life. For me, that is my dream. If I am here today, how many more people that I could make a difference, so that they also can step into where I will is or probably much, much bigger. Right? And that is my dream. That is a legacy that I would like to create. And this is why I'm so excited to share. Where was my struggle? And how did I deal with it so that others could relate? Oh my god, this is exactly where I was fumbling or stumbling or was a roadblock. Then it helps them. So I'm happy that you asked this question this morning. And I hope Okay, you got the gist of my dream life.
